Carrie Lomelino: Medical Guild’s Bronze Award Winner

Graduate student and member of Dr. Robert McKenna’s laboratory, Carrie Lomelino, was invited to represent the Department of Biochemistry and Molecualr Biology at the 43rd annual Medical Guild Research Symposium where she gave a 15-minute presentation on her topic, “Structure-Guided Drug Design of CA IX Selective Inhibitors as a Breast Cancer Treatment.  A panel of faculty judges assessed the students on their presentation and how they fielded questions posed to them during 5-minute Q&A session, in addition to their overall research accomplishments, including publications, presentations, awards and academic performance. Carrie was awarded a bronze monetary award on behalf of the UF Medical Guild.

The guild was founded in 1959 and comprises UF College of Medicine faculty and spouses. In addition to these awards, the guild also supports health care programs and facilities at UF Health through grants and donations.

The event also recognized the winners of the Council of Academic Chairs Scholarship, the Advancement to Candidacy and the Education Initiative Award. Two faculty members also received the 2017- 2018 Doctoral Mentoring Award.
